Vizhnitz - Monsey: "women should not go after new fashions"

Rebbe of Vizhnitz - Monsey to his chassidim: "You have to make sure that women will go in the way of the fathers. I cannot say which fashions currently exist, because I myself do not know, but everyone understands alone"

Vizhnitz - Monsey: "women should not go after new fashions"

In Monsey, NY was held a dinner for Kollel Vizhnitz Monsey, with the participation o the Rebbe Vizhnitz - Monsey. The gathering took place in the shadow of the Rebbe's day of rescue from the clutches of the Nazis, who delivered a moving speech.

"These days," said the Rebbe after thanking all the generous donors, "we mark the day of rescue from the hands of the Nazis. No one believed there would still be a world sitting and studying Torah. They thought the world was destroyed completely. When I went (after the Holocaust) to the Beit Midrash, in Arad (city in Romania), where Rabbi Matashka conducted a meeting of over twenty boys - I saw a new world. They were still sitting and learning! Thank God the Torah has increased since then and has spread to the world. "

After reminding the need, to keep going in the way of the fathers as in the old days and not change them an inch, the Rebbe continued and said:

"Even though it does not belong here, one may bring it up on this occasion: one must ensure that women will go in the way of the fathers, and not go after this world's desires. That includes garments, and in general for other things. I cannot say which fashions exist today as I do not even know I have no familiarity with these things. But each one of you understands alone, what is the need to encourage and prod home.

"In Vizhnitz, there was once someone from our family, who went to visit her parents. After a certain period she was away, when she had to return, a letter came to from her brother, in which he warned that his sister is ready to return Vizhnitz, only if they would allow her to go with an exposed wig (without a hat or scarf on it). The latter went on to add that 'her life depends on it'.

"Samuel Fuchs a"h was the messenger who brought the letter to my grandfather zt"l (the Ahvas Yisrael zt"l) and he told me that when my grandfather read the letter, he protested and cried out: 'stay away! ...' Of course, she relented later and returned home, but only after she undertook to cover her head and not go with a visible wig. Hence we see, how careful they were about it and not lean towards other directions. Although she came from a home where they used to wear wigs as was the custom in those countries, the grandfather did not allow going like that by him.

"So here, too," the Rebbe demanded, "Everyone shall establish in his home not to go after the new fashions, not change what is acceptable to us from our ancestors and to follow progress. Those who want to have God-fearing children, and have good descendants, then if one goes in the way of the fathers, this is a segula that would last for generations. "

Rebbe advised his followers to memorize a number of pages of Gemara, as it is a great segula when walking on the street, to memorize them in the head. Moreover, even when retiring to bed, you can return them in thought, before going to sleep and if one goes to sleep with such thoughts, or falsl asleep from such thoughts, this is a big segula, as stated in the Gemara.

Lastly, the Rebbe asked chassidim to attend the conference against the ravages of technology, "so there will be a kiddush Hashem."
