The wave of rumors about the expected appointment of a haredi consultant to the Minister of Education Rabbi Shai Piron, is swelling by the day. Tonight (Thursday) it was reported that a consultant has been selected alongside an 'advisory committee'.

Between the planned team members are: Rachel Ibenboim, Bezalel Cohen and Asher Gold. The consultant in question is the one whose name has been published here before as the leading candidate to the position - Yitzchak Ravitz, Degel HaTorah representative in Beitar Illit.

However, it turns out that nothing is closed yet. The candidates confirmed that that they were offered the job and were told they are accepted, but "it is still in the process of design". Another candidate said: "It's still not final." And a third candidate responded: "I do not know what the distribution of jobs will be"

So far, behind the scenes, there were dozens of meetings of Yitzhak Ravitz with the Minister and his advisers.

At the last meeting the idea of forming a team which would work alongside Ravitz, was raised. And so names came up (the idea: Hassid, Litvak, Sephardi), and the proposed candidates. At the beginning of this week, a meeting is supposed to take place between the planned team and Ravitz, but as mentioned, nothing has been finalized yet.

Moreover, during the meeting, it was mentioned that until the Arrangements Law will be presented to the government, on the 13th of this month, there is no reason to finalize anything.

Ravitz reemphasizes in almost every meeting that he is going to be a rubber stamp of this arrangements law or the other, and that only if he gets full powers – he will take the job.

Did Ravitz consult and receive the consent of the Litvak community's rabbis? Ravitz is not ready to say a word about it. But we can assume that if he continued in the series of meetings, he must have dealt well with this issue.
