The office of the Attorney General, Yehuda Weinstein, ended today (Monday), a discussion following the judgment of the District Court of Jerusalem, which stated that the Women of the Wall's prayer as a custom is not a criminal offense.
The discussion was attended by religious services minister, Mr. Naftali Bennett, and his deputy - Rabbi Ben Dahan, and Western Wall Rabbi - Rabbi Rabinowitz, along with other relevant senior officials to examine the implications of the decision of the Honorable District Court Judge Sobel.
The District Court held, inter alia, that "there is a reasonable suspicion that respondents went against regulations banned in the holy places, one of its necessary components, not making a religious ceremony according to local custom."
The District Court believed that prayer of Women of the Wall at the Western Wall is not necessarily contrary to local custom and does not constitute a criminal offense, in view of the broad interpretation that gave some of the justices of the Supreme Court rulings bar phrase.
After the hearing this evening the Attorney General decided, in consultation with the State Prosecutor not apply to the Supreme Court to appeal the ruling.
At the meeting it was agreed that the procedure to repair the regulations will be orderly, after hearing the relevant points.
Immediate regulations
In response to the decision called out the Western Wall rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, to the Minister of Religious Affairs Naftali Bennett, to immediately install the new regulations so the Western Wall remains as it was - a sacred and unifying place, not G-d forbid a place of controversy and factionalism.
"Rosh Chodesh Sivan is the date on which Am Yisrael stood 3,500 years ago in front of Mount Sinai, as one man with one heart to receive the Torah, and therefore it is the duty of every Jew on that day especially to unify and not hurt the feelings of the other.
"I call on everyone to respect the Western Wall and downplay the differing customs and continue the local custom set decades ago and thus focus on consolidated and jointly, and not arrive at the gates to demonstrate against each other."
Western Wall rabbi expressed his appreciation to the Attorney General and Minister Naftali Bennett on finding legal solution to maintain the status quo at the Western Wall.
