The Supreme Court agreed today in the appeal of Elior Chen, who is called "abusive rabbi" and sentenced to 24 years in prison. Yaaov Chen, Elior's father, told B'Chadrei Charedim: "We expect that finally justice will be made."
During the four-hour hearing, the court heard the arguments of lawyers to cancel the verdict against Chen fully or at least partially. They asked to "order the acquittal of the appellant and order the hearing or trial from the beginning."
State Panelists responded to claims, and during the hearing a breakthrough occurred that could benefit Chen: Judge Hendel suggested that the case be reopened in the district court where the evidence will be heard again. To save aggravation to the children forced to testify for the first time. Testimonies, according to the proposal shall not be submitted again.
The State has not yet responded to the proposal and the court has not yet received the final decision regarding the appeal.
Chen's father said to B'Chadrei Charedim: "I believe my son is innocent. He did not do anything." He accused the journalists, the media and especially the former lawyer representing him in the case, "because of him he did not say a word in the District," he explained.
"The followers said he did abuse children - apologized." He adds: "He will give instructions to beat children? He's never hit anyone. Never in his life has he raised his hand. Never happened. Everything is an invention of the press."
Chen's father who confronted the questions from the press before opening the discussion said that the child lying in a difficult condition today had epilepsy, "This is a problem of his parents. It is not our problem. The fact that he took them into his home was a mistake."
• If it is all bluffed, why did he flee to Brazil?
"He left the country legally," Yaakov replies, "In retrospect; I admit it was a mistake."
• How does he feel in jail?
"Feels very well."
Chen's associates hoped was that 600 people will be present at the hearing, but in reality only 30 people were present. Some of those present were activists who took part in the case.
This morning Chen received surprising support: A letter signed by Gab"d Eideh Charedi Hgry"t Weiss, Rebbe of Mishkenos Roim and Rebbe of Mevakshei Emunim, asked to recruit for "the redemption of captives."
