Baruch Dayan Haemes: In Borough Park passed away Hrh"ch Rabbi Zvi (Hershel) Bezalel Bornstein zt"l, legendry gabbai of the Shomrei Shabbos shul in Borough Park.
The deceased was born in Jerusalem, and moved to the U.S. over the years.
For decades he served as a devoted and loyal gabbai of the Beis Midrash, Shomrei Shabbos located on the corner of 13th Avenue 53rd in Borough Park in Brooklyn.
He was well known for his acts of charity and kindness and established an empire of chessed and a foundation for hachnasas kalla for Israeli residents.
He was well-liked, and as part of his role of gabbai he would serve as a baal koreh in the Beis Midrash, on Shabbos Zachor he would read every fifteen minutes Parashas Zachor, starting from six in the morning until four in the afternoon.
Beis Midrash Shomrei Shabbos – called the Itzkowitzz of Borough Park is known to every visitor. Coffee and tea and meals are handed out 24 hours a day.
Coffin will arrive tomorrow (Thursday) to Israel and the funeral will leave the Shamgar funeral home at 15:30 towards the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem where he will be laid to rest.
The family will sit Shiva on Thursday until 22:00 pm on Harav Sorotzkin in Jerusalem.
