Police: prosecute Rabbi Sherman

The police recommend prosecuting Rabbi Avraham Chaim Sherman on suspicion of an offense while serving as a judge in the Rabbinical Court.

The investigation was opened in 2010, following a complaint made to the Ombudsman on the judges.

The investigation judge questioned Rabbi Sherman with warning, with the approval of the Attorney General, after examining the material that was presented. The investigation material shows that Rabbi Sherman, made decisions on the release of a divorce refusal from imprisonment.

It is suspected that the judge consolidated the positions and portfolio decisions after being exposed to external pressures and actions influenced by these pressures and handled the case in violation of regulations courts.
The evidentiary basis has been formed that Rabbi Sherman's offenses was obstruction of justice, breach of trust and abuse of power position.

Investigation will be in the coming days to review the Attorney General and the State Attorney's Office in order to receive the Attorney General's decision.
In the year תשס"ח a panel of the Supreme Court, headed by Rabbi Sherman, decided on appeal, that all conversions done with 'conversion' of Rabbi Chaim Druckman are improper, and that those who converted these conversions is not Jewish, because the conversions are done without the intention to observe the commandments.

This decision sparked widespread controversy in the religious and the secular in Israel, with most of the religious nationalist and the secular supporting Rabbi Druckman and most of the Haredi public support Barb Sherman and his court. This ruling was revoked by the Supreme Court, and the conversion of Rabbi Druckman was recognized.
