Drama at Internal Affairs Committee: Activist wrapped in a tallit

Women of the Wall came this morning (Tuesday) to the Knesset for a discussion held at the Interior Committee hearings and the Environment, chaired by MK Miri Regev, jointly with the Committee on the Status of Women, headed by MK Aliza Lavie.

"The Laws of prayer are learned from women's prayers," began MK Lavie, and added: "This is a cultural - legal issue. If it turns out that was unnecessary harassment Women of the Wall it needs to be addressed immediately. God forbid that next month, in 10 days, we will still be in uncertainty. There is a new decision of the Court and the Attorney General must respond to my letter and to provide a current and clear review even before the month. We will not allow harm to the rights of women and will take care of each and every one so they can come and pray at the Western Wall in accordance with one's own beliefs.

Lavi attakced: "the women's section is assigned to only a quarter of the place assigned to men, and there was never a partition so high. This is sustained injury. I turned to Rabbi of the Wall a few months ago, and I'm glad to hear that he is working to move the partition."

Regev demanded of the government secretary Zvi Hauser to inform the committee before the next Rosh Chodesh what is the Justice Department's decision about the policy. She also required presenting to the Committee within 30 days the outline of Sharansky. She received the guiding principles to resolve the issue as presented by the Cabinet Secretary Zvi Hauser - maintaining the sanctity of the place, respect for freedom of worship, respect for the rule of law and the preservation of archaeological site.

Hoffman wrapped in a tallit: "they wouldn’t say anything to a man"

Anat Hoffman from Women of the Wall wrapped herself in a colorful tallit, and announced: "Today is a celebration we finally have a public debate. Twenty-four years we pray in all weather and conditions. Israeli police was with us in any weather, and we are considering writing a prayer for police officers who protect us ".

MK Regev required her to remove the shawl saying that is forbidden to enter accessories in the Knesset. "If a man would come in with a shawl, no one would say anything," commented Hoffman, and removed the shawl - scarf.

Yizhar Hess said that "Women of the Wall are not alone. There is a group of men who come to pray behind them, on the other side of the partition."

"And what do the men wear?" Wondered MK Menachem Eliezer Moses, who also participated in the discussion. "If they want to continue to forge Judaism, they can do so away far away from the holy place for the Jewish people," continued Moses to remark, adding that "every Rosh Chodesh Women of the Wall return and maintain a delusional gathering, participated by some individual scores, accompanied by dozens of media outlets and a large police force secure. What is to this weirdo group and the sanctity of the Wall? True Judaism held and retained the Wall and holiness over 3,000 years and you Women of the Wall display false misrepresentation of Judaism and prayer."

Words of Rabbi Moses were slashed and interjected and interrupted by Members of Knesset factions as well as by representatives of the Women of the Wall. MK Rabbi Moses did not remain silent and answered: "You shout and make noise so loud you'd think the rest of the country's difficult problems have been resolved. Not long ago we heard about the nationalist murder of father of five children in Samaria. We have more serious problems than you unrealistic problems.

"To Temple Mount they do not allow going up because everyone is aware and understand the consequences of that. No difference between things! One is not allowed to go up there and the Western Wall women are not allowed to hold delusional rituals. I call the state to act the same way also with the Women of the Wall and continue to prohibit any attempts of provocation on their part."

MK Shuli Muallem Rafaeli said: "This morning I experienced the same experience – they did not allow me to pass with a siddur and checked if my lips are moving. When talking about the right of every woman to pray at the Western Wall I want to inspire the true desire of the right of every Jew to pray on the Temple Mount. I am happy about each one who makes choice to accept a part in the Jewish world. Everyone has the right to worship God in his way. I am very supportive of the Sharansky outline."
