The Western Wall police, assisted by members of the Western Wall Heritage, made a video documentation of beggars violating the law and begging for donations from worshipers who come to the Western Wall.
This morning the police held a raid of the beggars, during which three were arrested. They were taken to the police station, the Kishale, where they were given restraining orders.
Jerusalem police announced that in conjunction with Western Wall Heritage, almost every day people who violate the law are arrested, and banned from the Kotel for up to 15 days.
Among them, Rabbi Mordechai G., aged 75, who has been praying for many years at the Western Wall every day at Vassikin. He was detained by police on suspicion of collecting alms at the Minyan in which he prays, taken to the Kishele station and released after a few hours.
Since the beginning of the year 17 indictments were filed against beggars and shnorers.
By law, at the Western Wall and the plaza in front of it, begging is forbidden, except for placing tzedaka boxes at places designated by the person in charge of the holy places.
