Message to heads of 'Eida': publish reluctance of attack on Harav Steinman - or boycott

On the last Independence Day, member of the Badatz Eida Haredis and Rav of Kiryat Harama Beit Shemesh, Rabbi Yehoshua Rosenberger, gave a speech, during which there was an unprecedented attacked, using juicy market language, of Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman.

"They (- Zionists) say it openly - If all Jews were like the Eida Haredis, like Neturei Karta, then they had no business with Haredi Judaism," said Rabbi Rosenberger. "You want to join us, you want to be just like us, you want to take money from them, you are like them in every way, if so then we consider you equal partners.

"Who is to blame? Their leaders. In Bnei Brak sits and instigator and inciter and some ignorant and empty people come along and make him Gadol Hador. Who made him Gadol Hador? Several journalists. Instigator and inciter he is. He maintains "asher karcha" just like Amalek. There are some erliche Roshei Yeshivos who want fight against conscription of yeshiva students, they stand by force and silence them so that they shut up. They threaten them. He is a real "asher karcha", he is a spark of true Amalek, and he is yet Gadol Hador as well. They are guilty of all the decrees. If they would not take money, the decree would not have been."

Following the publication of the defamatory words, which caused outrage in the Haredi street, rabbis and Roshei Yeshiva who are close associates of Hagaon R' Chaim Kanievsky turned to the Av Beis Din of Eida Haredis, Hgri"t Weiss, and Rab"d Hagaon R' Moshe Sternbuch, with a forceful and unequivocal demand - to express reservations about the words of the Badatz member. The Rabbis and Roshei Yeshiva did not demand that the disapproval will necessarily appear in a letter published by the Beis Din, saying a public renouncement of the harsh words would suffice.

It should be noted that Hagaon R' Chaim Kanievsky visited last Pesach a reciprocal visit at the Av Beis Din of the Eida, Hgri"t Weiss, who previously visited several times at his home, and there is contact between two courtyards.

Behadrey Haredim learned that if the rabbis' requirements are not met – there is consideration of banning by the Litvishe public on the kashrus system of the Eida Haredis.

Hagaon Rabbi Eliyahu Schlesinger, Rav of Gilo neighborhood and a great posek in the Jerusalem rabbinate, says in a pained conversation with Behadrey Haredim: "I'm shocked by the words. More than we have to fear what was said, the one who said the things has to fear and ask forgiveness for the things said against Gadol Hador, the one whom R' Chaim Kanievsky has crowned. I am confident that the rabbi who spoke does not represent the opinion of the Eida Haredis. He represents only a group of bigots who are there."
