Orthodox petition calls out to Lapid: we refund the taxes we paid in error. The request came following Lapid's remarks, quoting the journalist Hanoch Daum, in response to MK Yisrael Eichler on the tax revolt: "You threaten us not to pay taxes? Soon you will threaten us not mobilize to the army? ".
Lapid asked in his remarks to state that the Orthodox do not pay taxes, like non military service. The statement enraged the ultra-Orthodox community, and the petition requires "return us the tax funds, you say, we were not supposed to pay."
The petition is published on 'Atzuma' website, which concentrates petitions on various topics, and read: "In light of what you said last night which the orthodox do not pay tax, so they can not threaten revolt taxes. I appeal to you please get my money back. During the years I paid distinguished percent of my salaries and profits as taxes to the state, in addition to taxes such as VAT, purchase tax, etc."
The petition is formulated with irony and claims that "it appears that as a Haredi born I faced discrimination from neighbors and acquaintances, and since I am confident that this was an innocent mistake without malice, I'll just request direct refund of taxes paid, no need for linkage and interest. As proof of my orthodoxy I am attaching a photograph of me praying, and a picture of my wife at the kottel without a tallit."
The petition rolled across the vast social network and has gained many signatures.
Behind the initiative is web project "Dosim" which set a goal to strengthen the Haredi public relations, especially across the network, and to respond to arguments against it.
