The numbers behind the words: after the difficult exchange of words last night (Monday) at the plenum between Minister of Finance Yair Lapid and haredi MKs, this morning the newspaper Ma'ariv publishes the the expected cut in budgets of yeshivos.

According to the report, the cut is going to be significant: the new yeshiva budget will be about 30% less than the current one. Cuts will be made according to the Peri Committee resolutions which formulates the new law of recruiting yeshiva students to the IDF. Minister of Finance Yair Lapid announced that he accepts the conclusions of the Committee.

The Haredi yeshiva budget is one billion and 40 million, and after the cut will be 700 million - 340 million less.

The cuts will be derived directly from the decisions of the Committee, because budgeting a yeshiva student is parallel to be recognized as deferred service by the military authorities. To date, a yeshiva student was budgeted up to age 28, when he got a final exemption from the army. The Peri Committee seeks to give exemption for every yeshiva students who reaches the age of 22.

The logic behind the decision, in terms of the Commission, is that the IDF will now deal only with boys aged 18-22, and will integrate them into military service. "It will result in the army, instead of dealing with all Haredim aged 18-28, will only deal with Haredim aged 18-22," explain factors of the Committee to Ma'ariv."This, in addition to emerging economic sanctions, will cut 340 million from the budget haredi yeshivot, and is by all accounts a dramatic change."

At this time there is a tour of the Ministerial Committee on Equal Burden in Tel Nof base in central Israel. During the visit, the committee members will visit workplaces of Shahar soldiers and soldiers meet with soldiers of Netzah Yehudah - the Nahal Haredi, in a special panel. The ministers will be accompanied by a head of Personnel Directorate Commander Orna Barbibay who will review with them the Haredi recruits situation.
