Jerusalem true data: an increase of 2,191 haredi students

Increase in the number of children in Orthodox kindergartens in Jerusalem. This is contrary to the publication cited by the Jerusalem Municipality.

This morning (Monday) data was published by the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies, in which the ultra-Orthodox population in the capital is decreasing. City officials were overly enthusiastic about the data, and uploaded them to Facebook.

The data indicates that this is the second consecutive year in which there is an increase in the number of students in public education and state – religious schools in Jerusalem. This comes after ten years of steady decline in the number of students in these schools.

But other data obtained by B'Chadrei Charedim, suggests a constant increase among the Orthodox, one which is expressed mainly in the last year. According to the chart, it indicates that the increase was chiefly among the number of students in kindergarten.
The number of students in Haredi kindergartens in the year תשע"א was 20,931 and the year after a slight decrease of 96 students. Rise was swift last year, when the number of students increased sharply to -22,381 haredi kindergarten students.

The same data on all age groups show an increase in Haredi students in Jerusalem.

Last year, the number of Orthodox students in Jerusalem was 92,359 students. This year the number rose by 2,191 students added to the Haredi education.

Misrepresentation

"The data from the Jerusalem Institute are tendentious," said a Haredi source at the Jerusalem Municipality. "There was calculated editing of the data, to extract a title against the ultra-Orthodox education. True that there are three institutions which were registered in the municipality even though they never took money from the state, there were also institutions which were caught with fictitious entries and this year are no longer in the records."

Jerusalem municipality and its mayor, Nir Barkat, published the data of the Institute on their Facebook page and aroused the ire of surfers.
Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder Orthodox education in the municipality, Yitzchak Pindrus, said in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim, which "the fact that the city and Nir Barkat raised access data only shows that someone is trying to make political wealth on the back of ultra-Orthodox - for the elections."

Pindrus added "political factors took half data and made them into a circus." "The data shows a sharp increase in the number of students in Haredi education. This is an attempt to create a false impression that someone was able to stop the orthodoxy of Jerusalem."
The Jerusalem Municipality said in response: "Education in Jerusalem is growing in all sectors and we welcome this trend. In recent years, Mayor Nir Barkat is leading the reduction of gaps in construction of classrooms in the Haredi sector, to give a proper solution to every student in Jerusalem.

"It should be noted that in recent years there has been an increase in quality of life of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, enjoyed by all sectors and populations in the city. Municipality invests heavily in the development of each sector according to his needs, the one to the other and not at each other's expense. Municipality recognizes the increase in the migration balance of young people from the state and state - religious in Jerusalem and regrets everyone who chooses to leave Jerusalem from any sector.

"Any attempt to imply that the municipality is 'celebrating' the departure of any community and put the data published into political dimension - is inherently flawed and not according to us."
