Breach • interior Ministry confirmed the immigration of conservative converts

Change at the Interior Ministry is already ticking: After a long period in which the Interior Ministry prevented immigration hundreds of gentiles from Peru who converted conservatively, the breach of trust was broken, and the immigration is approved, officials at the Jewish Agency said to Haaretz.

This is a group of Peruvians, assimilated of Jewish descent known as the "Amazonian Jews".

They are the descendants of the Moroccan Jews who came to the Amazons area in the 19th century in search of work in the rubber industry and assimilated, today are Gentiles according to halacha.

The agency reported to the ministry last year that a group of hundreds of those Gentiles were converted conservatively and meets the criteria for immigration to Israel, according to the Law of Return.

284 members of the group, from Iquitos, the largest city in the rain forest, converted in August 2011 by a conservative court. However, the ministry delayed the approval of immigration without special government decision and the conservative movement protested.

Now, according to Ha'aretz, after which has been prevented its approval for many months, the Interior Ministry has approved the immigration of the group.

The office of Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar said that the article has no foundation and there is no change in the office policy.
