Calamay Rebbe, who owns an apartment in the building where the fire broke out yesterday (Monday) in Meah Shearim in Jerusalem, argues that contrary to the initial investigation of the firefighters, "there was the negligence of throwing a cigarette."
The Rebbe Rabbi Nachum Weissfish, does not head a large or small chassidus, but still calls himself the coveted title. He himself does not live in the building - but he owns the burned apartment. Yesterday, when the fire broke out, he was at Rashbi in Miron where he received an update on the occurrence.
"I'm still in the middle of investigating who threw the cigarette which caused the fire," he said to B'Chadrei Charedim. "But this was the result following the warm weather which prevails here the last few days." It also raises another serious accusation contributed to the damage, "the neighbors complained that the firefighters arrived only half an hour after calling them. In a situation like this, every minute counts." Fire brigade denied the accusations.
During firefighting operations and rescue of occupants, some neighborhood residents threw water bags at the security forces and threw a stone at an employee of the electric company, "I condemn it wholeheartedly," said the Rebbe, "when a fire brigade or ambulance comes into the neighborhood, it is in order to save lives. I believe that those are stupid kids because there is no Rabbi in the world who would allow such a thing, even if it is Neturei Karta or fanatics."
The Rebbe also has a creative idea how to cover the damage to the apartment, "I bought a lottery ticket. They say that after a fire one becomes rich, and I hope to earn the big lottery." Heslso said the possible cause of the fire is there was a decree in heaven and when there is a fire all the decrees are sweetened, maybe it was the way this decree will be canceled, who knows? "
