Haredi MKs, Shas and Yahadut Hatorah, have already marked the current term enemy - Finance Minister Yair Lapid, who in turn also marked the Orthodox as a target, and it seems that the battles and verbal altercations between the parties will regularly play at the Knesset.
The 'opening' was received today (Monday) at the opening of the Knesset's summer session, this time Lapid came ready for the conflict, while Shas MKs were silent at the plenum and chose to bat Lapid later, members of Yahadut Hatorah barely allowed the Minister to complete two consecutive sentences.
"Has the Rabbi of your party allowed you to post statuses on Shabbos?" Cried Uri Maklev, while Yisrael Eichler warned: "Do not you dare take away our children's money, we'll care for them, but you don’t rob."
Prior to Lapid's first speech, MK Meir Porush of Yahadut Hatorah - the submitter of the no-confidence proposal, attacked Lapid for his intention to cut the poor, arguing that raising taxes is not the solution to the deficit. Porush also suggestively referred to percentages of the secular evasion and warned Lapid that Yahadut Hatorah will fight against starving children.
MK Moshe Gafni, who spoke later, commented: "With such a finance minister, I am proud to be in opposition. We will not go into an argument with him about ultra-orthodox who will answer questions on the economy and divert the topic of discussion to charedim. "Even Lapid's speech Gafni told him to focus on economic issues, and won his scorn and anger.
Eli Yishai, who didn’t respond at the plenum, sent his response to Lapid on his Facebook page: "Dear friends, I heard Lapid's speech tonight. I wanted to apologize to you, as well as to the rest of Israel. I am to blame for the deficit of the State of Israel! Over the years I took for my family and neighbors and acquaintances, as well as for the Haredi population - unlawful money from the public purse. Who do you think paid for my flights abroad? The five-star hotels which all haredim go to? The Mercedes in the driveway? - At your expense.
Yair my friend, your smug and arrogant speech brought me to confess everything. How did you find out so soon what we tried to hide and conceal under various security clauses and oversized items to membership discounts of various business including under the presence of these taxes and others – I especially liked the time we were able to hide the theft under haircuts, infrastructure and gas sections. We almost succeeded, and then you came today and found out that we're actually the richest in the country. Oh Yair!"
