Behind The Scenes: surprising kashrus exchanges in Zoglobek

The Zoglobek company recently announced that it intends to transfer all of its meat products, which were so far under the supervision of the Eida Haredis, and also partially under Chug Chatam Sofer Bnei Brak, to the kashrus body of Badatz Mehadrin of Hagr"A Rubin.

On the face, this is surprising news. Today, there is almost no selling factory that would remove of its own initiative the kashrus of Badatz Eda Haredis, and instead adopt a different Kashrus body. This move is not on the part of the Eda Haredis, rather on behalf of Zoglobek, which considered one of the dominant companies and manufacturers in the country.

For the Eda Haredis this is a real blow. The kashrus body which controls hundreds of plants, including the largest and strongest in the country, is partly losing an important manufacturer, whose market share of meat is most significant.

Behadrey Haredim learned what was behind the scenes of the surprising decision, which turns out that has been cooking for at least two years, until it ripened into a final decision.

So far, the meat processing plants of Zoglobek, took their meat from 'Glatt Chicken' standing under the kashrus of Badatz Eda Haredis. These are mainly various types of sausage products. But the product was relatively expensive, for the fact that Glatt Chicken, and the marketing company Zoglobek sought to gain at the expense of the consumer.

Over the years, Zoglobek sought to become independent and stop the prolonged dependence on Glatt Chicken factories. The Zoglobek committee turned its request to the Shchita committee of Eda Haredis, to begin to slaughter in the slaughterhouse it owns, under the supervision of the Badatz. But the shchita committee refused to confirm it for various reasons, mainly monopolistic. Even the great pressure which Zoglobek used could not interfere with the business cartel.

Factors in Badatz 'Eda Haredis': "We regret that"

In a consultation with factors in the world of marketing, the management of Zoglobek decided to ask for the supervision of Hagr"a Rubin. As known, most of the sausage products in the market, come from plants that are under his supervision. The reputation he has accumulated, along with the fact that this is one of the leading kosher bodies, led to the conclusion that this is the ultimate body which is required.

"We are not conditioning in advance conditions which are irrelevant. We do not have the limitations of the Eda Haredis, and we have no problem to provide supervision in the slaughterhouse of Zoglobek, as long as they align and respond to all kashrus conditions we set. Hagr"a Rubin visited the slaughterhouse, and conditioned the kashrus with different demands, with subjects ranging from injections to structural changes in the slaughterhouse, and the requirements were met in accordance with the request, the way was paved for granting the kashrus," say sources in the kashrus body of Harav Rubin. The factors also note that this was not a decision that was pulled off the cuff, but after long and tedious months of careful preparation.

The kashrus committee of the Eda Haredis refused to comment directly, but admitted that their uncompromising principles of the shchita committee, were to their disadvantage. "We certainly regret that," they say openly.

It should be emphasized that the various baked goods of Zoglobek suchaas burekas, pizzas and so on, continue to be manufactured under the supervision of the Badatz Eda Haredis.
