Volunteer of Hashomrim organization in London is hospitalized since Thursday morning at a local hospital, suffering from a fracture and bleeding in the head, following a serious incident which occurred in Golders Green.
In the early morning of Thursday, local non-Jews sped in a car in the neighborhood roads, passed by a group of yeshiva students, and threw eggs at them and at vehicles owned by Jews and escaped.
A report was received at Hashomrim call center about throwing of eggs, and volunteers of the organization arrived at the area, were able to locate the vehicle and blocked it from all directions until the arrival of the police.
The capture of the egg throwers delighted the residents, since last year it became an annoying phenomenon for the residents. But the joy was premature - while the volunteers were waiting for the arrival of the police, the egg-throwing vehicle fled the scene and hit one of the volunteers.
The volunteers lost consciousness and was evacuated with serious injuries to a local hospital near the scene.
Eye witnesses accused the police of negligent handling of the case: "Instead of stopping the egg-throwers, the police were busy in moving vehicles of members of the organization," they testified.
Sheldon Bodner, chairman of the organization in London said: "I'm afraid the police activity has caused serious damage to one of our friends."
The police chief declined the accusations in response, noting that the incident is under investigation. An 18-year-old man was arrested in a nearby neighborhood shortly after the incident and questioned on suspicion of attempting to murder. He was released later while on bail.
