A storm in Bnei Brak: Did the food store Matamei Shlomo desecrate Shabbos? Matamei Shlomo, one of the prominent stores and sellers in Bnei Brak, which operates stores selling Jewish food and fast food, was caught on Saturday night in a storm when allegations of desecration of Shabbos were hurled at it from all sides.

The beginning of the story is before the end of Shabbos when Rabbi Leibel Weiss, one of the leading supervisors of Hgrmi"l Landau stood near the store, after receiving complaints in a timely manner that non-Jewish employees enter the shop before Shabbos. The greatest fear was that after the entry of workers they start to work in the store and prepare it for Motzaei Shabbos.

At some point, fear turned into reality. One of the employees opened the store, went into it and after a few minutes came out of it.

So far it is not clear exactly what the employee's actions were. Bystanders claimed that the smell of cooking wafted from the store. Rabbi Weiss himself claimed that the employee did not perform cooking. The store owners also denied that the employee turned on the gas, cooked food or prepared for work on Motzaei Shabbos.

But rumors about the alleged desecration of Shabbos spread quickly and became the talk of the town.

Yesterday (Motzaei Shabbos) senior officials of the kashrus system of Rabbi Landau met to decide how to act in front of the store owners. "It was not exactly desecration of Shabbos," agreed Rabbi Weiss, "but one should alert so that to this case will not be repeated again."

Consequently, it was decided to close the meat store for three days. Store owners agreed without discussion to the request of the kashrus system, but denied in a conversation with Behadrey Haredim the allegations attributed to them, "Because of the rain, one of the workers who came to the store, entered it. There was no chilul Shabbos. There was no cooking. And the kashrus system agrees to this too. Some people with vested interests warmed to exaggerate the story to a situation that they had to warn and punish, even though there was nothing. "
