Shmuel Chaim Pappenheim and his son in-law were attacked on Friday night in Beit Shemesh.
The two were on their way back home from a family celebration. Even before the disaster occurred, a police car came, "You're lucky," said the policeman to Pappenheim.
Immediately after Shabbos, Pappenheim told his story: "I was told last week that I'm a relative and an old friend of someone from the Anglo-Saxon national religious community - relatives.
"On Friday night I was invited to a Shalom Zachor of one of my new relatives," he said on Facebook. "I left the haredi neighborhood in Beit Shemesh to Arazim. Three of us walked with our ultra orthodox uniform, including a golden striped coat, streimel, white socks and peyos.
"The violent attack occurred only on the way back home," Out of nowhere a dark skinned youngster came out and whipped me on my back.
"Midnight, not a Haredi neighborhood, suddenly attack, what do we do? And who knows what will follow ... The youngster continues to snipe at me and my friend. I collected myself and started to run toward him, to scare him. He threw the stick into my son in laws face. His glasses broke, drops of blood dripped from his face and we are ready for battle.
"Then, out of nowhere, suddenly emerged a police car. Two policemen jump out of the car, grabbed the young man, checked him if there is nothing dangerous in his possessions and pushed him into the van. I walked over to the policeman and told him that I have nothing against the young man who certainly did something bad, influenced or diverted by someone. I wish him a good life, but it really is a waste of time to spend nights so helpless. It may lead him to worse actions and it is better to take your life into your own hands.
"The policeman told me, look. It was not wisdom. It was luck. Because we came right away. And you are also older people in a group. What would have happened if the story had ended differently, if in your place was seized a young and weak man? We must handle him. We blessed the police, thanked them and went back to the neighborhood and our families."
