Indictment against Taibeh resident for joining the rebels in Syria

Cleared for publication: Three weeks ago, as part of a joint operation of the General Security Service and the central unit of the Israel Police Central District, was arrested Hahmat Ahman Hussein Matzarroh, a resident of Taibeh age 29, who went out to Syria to fight alongside the rebels.

General Security Service interrogation shows that Matzarroh went to Syria to join the 'global jihad' working against the Syrian army, and to try and find his brother, Hussein, who came to Syria a few months ago for a similar purpose.

In Syria Matzarroh underwent military training at the camp of the rebel forces, he also took part in the establishment, including weapons training. Among other things, he was offered to carry out a suicide attack against the forces of Assad's regime, but says he refused.
His investigation brought up that he was interrogated and asked many questions about Israel and the IDF, including the types of weapons used in the IDF, and questions about the Dimona reactor. He claimed that he was asked to carry out an attack in Israel, but refused this request.

ISA consider Israeli Arabs going out to Syria a very dangerous phenomenon. This is due to the presence in the Syrian arena of active and hostile elements to Israel and its security, particularly activists of global jihad. Arab Israelis traveling to Syria are exposed to extreme anti-Israel ideology, and there is concern that they will be used by the terrorists in this arena, both as a source of information about destinations in the country, and carry out military activities against Israel.

Today (Wednesday) was submitted by the District Attorney's Office Central District Court Lod serious charges against Matzarroh, on suspicion of involvement in offenses of contact with a foreign agent, military training and going illegally overseas.
