Haredi residents of the neighborhood of Williamsburg breathed a sigh of relief this morning: New York police arrested Robin Aovlias, 35 this morning suspected of lighting on Holocaust Day and the next day the Mezuzahs on the doorways of about 12 apartments in Williamsburg.
The image of the suspect has been identified in a video of the security camera of the building where the mezuzahs were burned.
In the video the suspect is seen striking a match in the hallway of the building near the apartment.
The suspect is a serial offender who was arrested at least 50 times for various offenses and assaults.
On his MySpace account the suspect wrote that he is a lover of poetry and music. On his personal blog he wrote: "Life is like a fire, it burns, but you touch it anyway. You know it will hurt, but our pain says pant."
Yesterday city councilman David Greenfield promised a prize of three thousand dollars to anyone who brings information on the mezuzah lighter.
