Watch history: R' Aharon Leib Steinman consoled R' Ovadia Yosef

Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman arrived today (Wednesday) at noon for nichum aveilim at the President of the Council of Sages of Shas, Hagaon R' Ovadia Yosef, who is sitting shiva for the death of his son, Hagaon R' Yaakov zt"l.

Harav Ovadia told Harav Steinman that yesterday the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to console him. "I told him from the depth of my heart about my pain about the decree of recruit for yeshiva students, it saddens me more than anything else, even more than the death of my son," said Harav Ovadia.

Later they discussed Divrei Torah. Harav Ovadia said that before the soul descends into the world it enjoys the radiance of the Divine Presence. After the body dies, the soul rises to heaven if the deceased studied Torah - it once again enjoys the splendor of the Divine Presence, but this time because of its good deeds.

R' Aharon Leib said that when a person is born his hands are clenched. When he dies - his hands are open, he does not take anything out of this world..."
