Mezuzah burning suspect: I have alibi • Video

Robin Ovlias suspected of burning mezuzahs in Williamsburg on Holocaust Day - displays an alibi.

The girlfriend of the 35 year old suspect said in a conversation with the media that he could not be the man that sparked the mezuzahs in Jewish homes, as during the time when one of the ignitions took place, he was in the local library. "He loves the Jews," she said.

Haredi residents of the neighborhood breathed a sigh of relief yesterday after New York police arrested Ovlias on suspicion that he is the man who ignited on Holocaust Day and the next day mezuzahs at the doorways of 12 apartments in Williamsburg. His image was identified by a video of the security camera in the building where the mezuzahs were ignited.

In the film, the suspect is seen striking a match in the hallway of the building, near one of the apartments.

The suspect is a serial offender, who was arrested at least 50 times for various offenses and assaults.

His girlfriend said: "He loves people of all types of populations. He has no problem with Jews, I'm Jewish myself, and he wouldn't do such a thing."
