Lupolianski portfolio transaction? • Race to City Hall opens

The second time: District Court judge in Tel Aviv, David Rosen, who discusses the Holyland case, suggested the parties to reach a plea bargain in the case of former Jerusalem mayor Uri Lupolianski.

The judge offered his proposal during a hearing held today (Thursday) when Lupolianski's lawyer, Amos Ven Emden, requested to cancel one of the discussions.

Judge Rosen replied: "You may cancel all discussions; it is time for a breakthrough and creative thinking. You told me you will consider it when you finish the cross-examination (up state) and the investigation has completed."

Three months ago, at another discussion, Judge Rosen said that he finds it difficult to understand why the trial is being conducted against Lupolianski. The judge urged the sides to close a plea bargain, given that the dispute between them concerns the legal interpretation and the foundation of the action.

If Lupolianski's file will be closed, chances are that it will affect the election race for mayor of Jerusalem.

So far there have been in terms of the race a few names, some denied any connection. Among the names: MK Aryeh Deri, who denied that he intends to run for mayor, but it seems that if he knew his chances of winning the job are secured, he would run. Deri also met with a senior on the Jerusalem branch of the Likud.

Also the name of the former Knesset chairman was mentioned will run for mayor, but MK Reuven Rivlin is going to charge hard on the presidential race and not on the Jerusalem Municipality.

Incumbent Mayor Nir Barkat also intends to run.

If Lupolianski will apply, it is estimated that he will "walk through the elections." These estimates are heard from various NRP sources, not all in line with Barkat, as well as among Likud officials, some of whom are not satisfied with the performance of Barkat.

Haredi public, needless to say, will support Lupolianski with an overwhelming majority, who was once considered an excellent mayor for all communities.
