A new arena between the Haredi public and Yair Lapid: The prayer issue of 'Women of the Wall' at the Western Wall. Speaking yesterday (Wednesday) to 200 members of the New York Jewish Federation, Lapid said: "I will do everything I can to allow women to pray at the Western Wall wrapped in a Tallis." This was reported by 'Walla' site,
"I'm going to do everything I can to ensure the equality between The Orthodox, Reform and Conservative. Nobody can claim ownership of G-d," Lapid said.
The situation today is that the square is divided into the men's and women's section. The activity 'Women of the Wall ", who wish to wrap themselves in a tallis and read the Torah, recently strengthened and aroused a storm. The Supreme Court ruled that they should not do so at the place, and the police enforced the decision several times and arrested women.
Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky suggested an outline according to which the Wall plaza will undergo renovations and be divided into three parts: men's, women's and another mixed part for the Reform and Conservative Movement.
The outline aroused much opposition among rabbonim.
