"Possibility of closing Olmert case in Holyland affair examined"

The prosecution is examining the request of lawyers of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to dismiss the indictment against him in the case, following the death of the state witness, Shmuel Dachner, as said last night (Thursday) by Deputy State Prosecutor, Shuki Lemberger, during the Regional Conference of Attorneys' Association in Eilat.

Walla Site reports that a decision has not yet been made on that and is expected, according to the assessment made only after the testimony of his brother, Yossi Olmert, in about three weeks.

The state witness Dachner died about six weeks ago, at the height of the cross-examination by Olmert's attorneys and was asked about money transfers to his alleged associates – by former bureau chief Shula Zaken and his brother Yosi - which according to the prosecution were given bribes by Olmert.

The evaluation after the death of Dachner was that in any case the decision to revoke or change the indictment will not be accepted before the testimony of Yossi Olmert will be heard, who the prosecution claims received about half a million dollars from Dachner, although there was no acquaintance between them. This evidence will be heard in about three weeks.

Haaretz Site reported that Deputy State Advocate explained in the conference that if the prosecution will think that one can convict Olmert without the testimony of Dachner – the Court will continue as planned, but if they come to the conclusion that there is no reasonable chance to convict him, the prosecution would withdraw the charge.
