Riot in Meah Shearim: Police and municipal inspector arrived today (Tuesday) afternoon to the neighborhood with reinforcements, in order to remove a sign with the slogan "Zionism, Israel's Holocaust."
This morning a listener went on broadcast during Avi Ratzon's program on 'Jerusalem' radio, and complained that the sign - in the center of the neighborhood – is inciting against the state, and authorities should have it removed. Apparently it reached the authorities, and they decided to address the issue. The police clarified today that in the past have received complaints about the sign, and transferred them to the Jerusalem Municipality.
The police were met by an angry crowd, who assured them that if the police try to remove the sign - they would resist in any way, even if it will result in arrests. The sign hangs on the porch of the house of Yisrael Meir Hirsch, placed there 4 years ago.
"The only complaint the police can have about the sign is that it is not clean or updated," said sarcastically a resident of the neighborhood, who set the police's will to remove the sign as "boredom".
The police, accompanied by the Jerusalem Municipality employee, went up to Hirsch's home and knocked on the door. Although Hirsch was in - he did not respond to the police.
After despair, police promised they would return late at night to complete the job and remove the sign, and to avoid mass opposition.
