Earthquake near Bushehr: 30 dead and hundreds injured

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale was felt in the south of Iran, some 100 km from the establishment of a nuclear reactor in Bushehr.

In the afternoon (Israel time), at around 15:30, there was an earthquake in southern Iran. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the earthquake's intensity was 6.3 on the Richter scale.

According to media reports, to date the death toll stands at 30 people. According to Iranian authorities, about 650 people were injured.

A Russian company responsible for operating the nuclear reactor in Bushehr, told the Russian news agency RIA that three people were killed, but said the incident did not affect the reactor professional activities. "The earthquake did not affect the reactor. Faculty continued to work normally and the radiation level was exceeded."
