Shuvu Banim storm: After dozens of followers landed recently in Morocco, Rabbi Eliezer Berland - wanted for questioning in Israel, for acts of abuse - ordered his community in Israel not to come to Morocco, for fear of injury by terrorist elements in the country, reports Israel today.
The Rabbi instructed to forward a message to all followers who planned to come to Morocco – to stay in Israel. In addition, in the coming hours the Rabbi will ask his followers staying with him to gradually return to their homes. The main reason: fear of harm to the Jewish community by terrorist elements in the north - African country.
Another reason leading to the surprising order is the fact that already yesterday the Jewish community in Morocco decided, in coordination with the authorities to stop issuing visas to those wishing to enter the country. Visa procedures are usually done by invitation of the Jewish community center in the capital of Morocco. The center ruled by the authorities, sends the passengers a booking which they present at the entrance to the country.
Jewish community officials said yesterday that authorities were instructed not to issue more visas until further notice. This caused anger among charedim who come every year to Morocco, to go and pray at the kivrei tzaddikim in the country.
A Shuvu Banim source told B'Chadrei Charedim, it is possible that the order was given after community officials realized that for Lag B'Omer many Breslev chassidim are expected to reach the country, and to reduce the group staying in the country, published a message on behalf of the Rabbi not to take flights to Morocco, at this point.
