Peres: Holocaust part of biography and not history

President Shimon Peres sent today (Monday) a special message aired on a giant video screen in front of 11 000 people - teenagers and young adults participating in the March of the Living, from Israel and the world, in the main ceremony of the parade held at 17:00 (Israel time) at Auschwitz - Birkenau.

Message recorded, uploaded to Facebook of the president, social networks and websites, Peres said: "There are parades which are recorded according to length, and there are parades which are recorded according to time. You are going out to a parade which is incomparable - it's a parade of abysmal depression and most sublime top. This abysmal slump acts of the Nazis, did not take place throughout all of history. We annihilated six million brothers, sisters, girls and children.

"To this day, when I see you, come to my eyes the images of prayer shawls, the hair, the shoes, the children and adults – which the Nazi beats stripped off their victims. It is not a matter of memory and forgetting – their blood is flowing in our viens, boiling until this day. We will never calm down. The distance is not so great, it happened 74 years ago; this is part of our biography, not part of our history. Until this day we have not filled what was cut off from us - the size of the Jewish people today is smaller than it was before the war.

"The pain, the wound, the emptiness still exists. They live among us. We live what happened to them. This picture in 1945 we realized the day the war ended. And in a short time - three years, the greatest miracle happened. New rebirth of the Jewish people - State of Israel. It was established against all dimensions and all norms. In the desert, hostility, shortages, resistance, war. Again the Jewish people climbed the unprecedented heights. Between the groundwater and the summit is no distance. One is the result of the other. Heroism of Israel stems from the heroic sons, but in her sons also flow the anger and grief – it is unbelievable what happened to us.

The President emphasized the importance of the parade symbolizes the memory of the Holocaust and the establishment of the State of Israel and said, "You walk. With your feet you go to all the people. Bow your heads in their memory, raises your head to the State of Israel. This is a parade like no other in any nation. Go in peace and your return in peace - we will remember the pain and we will build a state that has not lost the hope to repair the world."
