"Religious terrorism endangers our lives and our existence here in this country," says the author A. B. Yehoshua in an interview published in Yedioth Ashdod.

Yehoshua is considered a respected Israeli writer. This week, on Tuesday, he attended the Maimonah academic in Ashdod. "A cab driver who drove me," testified the writer, "she told me that she herself was born in Ashdod and resident of the city, and that she is concerned that the Haredim in her opinion are taking over her city. This is not something that surprises me. It's happening everywhere, and I see this situation as nothing less than religious terrorism that threatens our lives and our existence here in Israel."

As to whether it can be overcome, he replied: "Actually, now I'm a little more optimistic than before, following the recent elections. In my opinion the settlers are a danger to Israel, but even they are not any great threat to our existence as Haredim."

Yehoshua himself grew up in a religious home, but it did not stop him from using harsh words: "Religion does not threaten me. I am over with the synagogue on Shabbos, I removed my tallis and went to a youth movement. I never felt that I was in fear that can interfere with my life. We were not estranged from religion as today."
