Rabbi Eliezer Berland, Shuvu Banim leader, wanted for investigation by the Israeli police following embarrassing allegations brought against him – is staying in Morocco, and it doesn’t seem that is going to leave soon.
According to a report on Channel 2 last weekend the Rabbi was in Casablanca.
One of the members of the community in Morocco says: "Rabbi came to Morocco for Pesach, where he was in a hotel, and then he went to Marrakech. Every day he came to pray and bless people. Many also went to visit him."
None of the Jewish community members in Marrakech knew about complaints filed against the Rabbi in Israel.
According to a community member, the rumors about complaints filed against him were "shocking". He added that "at that moment, parts of the community were in a very unpleasant situation. There were children and women who came to ask for a blessing."
According to people close to the rabbi, he would remain in Morocco in the near future. One of the most prominent advantages in the North African country is the lack of an extradition treaty and a lack of cooperation between the authorities in Israel.
However, after the suspicions against the rabbi were published in the community, they are considering changing the attitude towards him. "If he wants to stay, things will look different," says the Jew who belongs to the local Jewish community.
