Beitar Illit: Ateret Zvi shul went up on flames

On Chelkat Yoav Street in Beitar Illit a fire broke out at the Ateret Zvi shul, firefighters and paramedics of the Hatzalah branch in Beitar Illit are working to put out the fire.

To date there are no injuries in the incident, and the level of damage at the shul and ritual objects is still unknown.

Volunteers are also evacuating the children from the nearby Talmud Torah and surrounding kindergartens, to prevent injuries from smoke inhalation.

Volunteers at Hatzalah Beitar who are trained firefighters and are qualified to handle such cases are helping two firefighters who arrived alone to control the fire.
Only after considerable efforts, under joint forces they managed to control the raging fire. Then, it became clear that disaster took over the shul, and beyond the severe damage to the shul building, the fire also hit the tefillin and taleisim and many sifrei kodesh, and these were badly damaged, much to everyone's chagrin.

"At around 14:30 the urban center received a report of a fire on Chelkat Yoav Street said Guy Akrib, director of the urban center, "the emergency center boosted security and rescue forces, who began evacuating students, as well as removal of the Sifrei Torah from the shul. In addition students were evacuated from the institutions nearby. Thank G-d there were no casualties."

Hatzalah spokesman reported: The paramedics were able to remove the Sifrei Toarh and we are now operating to evacuate the children from the nearby Talmud Torah and kindergartens due to fear of smoke inhalation. Additional fire brigade forces are on their way to the scene."
