History: Haredi and Zionists rabbis unite against draft

Orthodox Roshei Yeshivas met tonight (Wednesday) with the leaders of the Zionist yeshivas at the home of Rabbi Simcha Hacohen Kook, at the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem.

The special meeting was attended by: Hgr"d Cohen, Rosh Yeshivas Chevron and member of Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah, Rosh Yeshivas Ohr Yisrael – Hgr"y Rosen, Rosh Yeshivas Beit Matityahu – Hgr"b Weisbecker, Rosh Yeshiva of Mir Brachfeld - Hgr"tz Partzovitz and Hgr"a Direnfeld-dayan and Rav of chassidus Belze.

The Zionist Roshei Yeshiva who participated, Rosh Yeshivas Merkaz Harav Yeshiva – Hrh"g Yaakov Shapira and Hrh"g Yehoshua Magnus, rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Bet El – Hrh'g Rabbi Zalman Melamed, Rosh Yeshiva of Tel Aviv – Hrh"g Rabbi Chaim Ganz, Rabbi of Safed – Hrh'g Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, the rabbi of Petah Tikva - Rabbi Micha Halevi, Rosh Yeshiva Kedumim Hrh"g Rabbi Yitzhak Ben-Shahar.

The rabbis discussed the issue of recruitment and came to a joint declaration that no one has the right to touch and hurt those who study Torah, or the Torah education system.

The Roshei Yeshiva also agreed that any move or action must be made with full backups of the Roshei Yeshiva.

The rabbis agreed to continue the meetings from time to time, and to monitor developments in various spheres and public values.
