Remands in the orthodox boy kidnapping case

District Court held today (Tuesday) a discussion on the case of the assault and kidnapping of a yeshiva student from Jerusalem in October 2012, in which the offender Charlie Abutbul was arrested.

The arrest of Shalom Abutbul, Galgai (David) Wendom and Iman Aweideh was extended until the end of proceedings.

Rafael Mimon's lawyer (age 18), asked the court an alternative to detention, because of his young age and lack of criminal history. He added that he received instructions and guidelines from elders, that the criminal way is their way of life, exploiting the gullibility and placed him in a situation like they are helping a great rabbi, and hadnt revealed to him the overall plan. For this reason he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people.

As for Tal Goslan, son of Deputy Religious Council and City Council member and Tiferes Moshe yeshiva Rabbi, the test report did not allow the supervised released, but his lawyer argued that it was biased and unprofessional.
Decision concerning Rafael Maimon and Tal Goslan postponed to -21.3.2013.

Yesterday, police arrested Nathaniel Butbul 26, resident of Rechasim, on suspicion of involvement in the case of assault and abduction. The suspect managed so far to escape from the police. The Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court yesterday extended the remand by four days.

Consequently, Crimes, the unit investigating the case for several months, continue the investigation which allegedly involved more than 17 people - who are suspected of involvement in kidnapping the boy, his imprisonment and serious violent offenses towards him - by the head of the criminal organization of Charlie Abutbul and his people.
According to the charges filed against 12 people, including Abutbul himself and a number of Orthodox defendants, defendants attributed counts of extortion by force or intimidation, conspiracy to commit a felony and false imprisonment.

The indictment describes the chain case: On October 22 last, Rabbi Meir Fadida (one of the defendants) filed a complaint in which he argued that the previous day, in the evening when he attended the wedding of his daughter, the amount of money involved was stolen from his home.

Son of Rabbi Fadida (another defendant) suspected the boy from Jerusalem was responsible for the theft, despite the denial. They conspired with the defendants to return the stolen money - using violence, threats and false imprisonment. The indictment describes that the scholar was brought in for questioning and the defendants beat him with a bat and punches.

The boy decided that he should acknowledge it even though he had no involvement in it, to stop the beatings. He told the attackers that the money is in his apartment. Some of the defendants drove to the address given by the scholar - but the money was not found. The attackers told the boy: "We will kill you." So the boy was taken to the home of Abutbul in Netanya, where he remained until the end of October. At one point, the boy managed to escape from the apartment, and complained to the police.
