A prison facility for infiltrators will turn into a training base for haredim who will join the army - according to military planning. According to a report published this morning (Tuesday) in Ma'ariv, the Sadot detention facility, established in the Negev near the Ketziot prison, will change its role and absorb the haredim which the government wants to recruit.
The detention facility "Sadot" was built in the Negev to fight the phenomenon of infiltration of immigrants from Africa.

Outgoing Interior Minister Eli Yishai planned that this facility will receive the infiltrators and will deter future infiltrators.

The construction of the facility was completed, and its cost was estimated to at millions of dollars, due to the urgency in construction. It was able to accommodate 8,000 refugees. But now it turns out that the newly established border fence and increased enforcement in the area led to the almost total cessation of infiltrators entering Israel.

The government contractor in the construction of the facility was the Ministry of Defense, but the plan was that with the completion of construction it will be delivered to the Ministry of the Interior and Bureau of Prisons. Now that there is no need for a facility for infiltrators, the army is considering to leave it in their possession and turn it into a military base.

"It is clear to us that the expected recruitment of thousands of young hareidim will force us to plan accordingly," a military source told Ma'ariv. "For example, the need to house them in bases adapted to their needs, similar to the current haredi Legion of Netzach Yehudah, in whose base not women soldiers are serving, and kashrus conditions are far more stringent."

There were also plans that the place will be used for the Givati Brigade, but the Army estimated that the need for a place for the haredi recruits is more urgent, and designating the place for that will be a correct solution.

Defense Ministry said to Ma'ariv, in response: "The ministry operates as an executive body of the Israeli government and according to its decision to establish a facility for infiltrators."
