Blasting finishing line: the final stretch before signing

Whoever thought the coalition agreement will close on Sunday or maximum by yesterday (Monday), is expected to understand his error today as well.

So far it appears that this is a procedure which is repeatedly jammed, now it's stuck without an appointed date of the return of the parties to the negotiating table.

Estimates are that the chairman of Yesh Atid, Yair Lapid, is taking advantage of the shortage of time of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who seeks to present his government to the president upon his return to Israel, on Wednesday.

So far Lapid has managed to achieve a significant reduction of ministers. The number currently stands at 21, including the prime minister, a significant reduction which would prevent the need to add a table inside the main cabinet in the plenary.

On the other hand Netanyahu managed to get himself an unequal key of the number of ministers: 12 for Likud - Beiteinu (which has 31 seats) and 9 only for the other partners (comprising 37 seats). This achievement will allow Netanyahu to distribute to various members positions and reduce the pressure against him by those who do not gain the job.

About the role of foreign minister, it is still unclear who will fill the position until Lieberman could return to the role. Replacing the minister will cause another minister to be missing a role, however the chairmanship of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee will be vacated, currently under Lieberman, and this is a prestigious job in itself.

Among others, agreements were reached on the identity of the following roles: Yair Lapid as finance minister, Naftali Bennett - Minister of Industry, plus expanded powers, including the role of public relations.

The main differences were currently around the identity of the minister of education, when Yesh Atid demands the job for itself, for Shai Piron, and the Likud insist on leaving it for Gideon Sa'ar. "Arrogance and insolence", MK Miri Regev defined the demand tonight, given the success of Sa'ar in this position.

The role of the Minister of the Interior, which Lapid wanted to give to his party member, MK Meir Cohen or MK Yael German, is currently in the eye of the storm: Netanyahu prefers to keep it for a Likud member, so too the chairmanship of the Finance Committee which Lapid designated for Ofer Shelah, his party member, but this has no consent by Netanyahu.

As the Knesset convenes for swearing in of the new government, one has to choose, first, the Knesset Speaker and his deputies.

In this issue there was a serious publicized conflict between Netanyahu and former Speaker Reuven Rivlin, whom Netanyahu promised for a long time to support him as a candidate for the job.

In the background are probably disposable statements by Rivlin which offended the Prime Minister's wife, among others, when he said that his wife does not generally interfere with his appointments ...

Even a meal to which Rivlin was invited with his wife, and which was held at the Prime Minister and attended by Mrs. Netanyahu probably did not help mend the rift.

On the one hand, there are Likud members who work hard for the re-election of Rivlin, including his best friend Saar and others. On the other hand there are those who cast criticism at him and mention the cases in which he refused to fall in line with the demands of Netanyahu and led an independent policy, including issues related to the court.

If at first there seemed to be a power struggle between Netanyahu and Lieberman, who wants to see the role filled by the Minister Yuli Edelstein, the more the time of choice is approaching, it emerges that Netanyahu himself has no great wish to support Rivlin, despite promises he gave him in the past.

In Lieberman's surrounding there are those who said that "the purpose of the move is to 'educate' Rivlin, assuming that he has many chances to be elected for presidency (secret ballot which does not mean much to support one or another), so it is important to make him a muscle and teach him" how to behave' and how to be more disciplined to the vertices.

"A few months as a regular MK will return him to his former position, it seems that the role made him arrogant and too independent ", they say. When I asked why they would not talk with him and explain things to him frankly, they claim that they do not believe you can change anything in the current situation and insist on supporting Edelstein to the job.

What is clear is that if indeed Rivlin will be deposed from his office, an Inner World War is expected in the Likud, his supporters will refuse to accept the move. This war will join additional internal world wars, which threaten the peace of Likud Chairman, Benjamin Netanyahu.
