While there are those who try to fight ethnic discrimination in Jerusalem, some are backing it up: Council member, Moshe Gura sent this afternoon (Monday) a letter of response to the letter of Asher Mishali, Shas Council member, who demands to pass the budget of NIS 10 million assigned for the construction of the Mendelssohn seminary, to another religious institution which does not discriminate.

In his letter, Gura protests against Mishali's steps: "Even if there are claims as justified as they may be, against the managers of the seminary, there's no sense to punish as a result all those many hundreds of students studying in the seminar, who are learning in sub-conditions, who daily suffer severe and persistent suffering. This is not the way to solve real problems of the students on the backs of hundreds of other students and their parents who are innocent, and prevent them from improving the conditions of their studies. "

If not enough, Gora hints that Mishali's appeal to legal entities in the Jerusalem municipality to check whether one can stop a budget or deny the possibility of a future assignment to an institution that discriminates against girls based on ethnicity as the Mendelson seminary is a "messira" of seminaries and their managers, "for the objective does not justify the means."

He adds on the same matter: "I am sure that even if it involved justified claims still there are many ways to handle it inside the camp, by means of Gedolei Yisroel and their representatives, without spoiling our reputation at hostile elements who are against us, lying in wait for us on the corner, and thus endangering the existence and independence of educational institutions which are dear to us all. And I have no doubt that there is no Torah and rabbinic factor which will give its hand to these moves. "

United Torah Judaism Council member noted that he is "aware of the fact that there are real specific issues about the conduct of accepting students to seminaries." He said, "We are all working tirelessly on this issue every day, together with the rabbis' committee appointed by Gedolei Yisroel, and among other things I asked for a meeting in order to hold a thorough discussion seriously."

A week ago, Moses Gura's letter was revealed in Behadrey Haredim iin which he wanted to raise the issue of discrimination and fight against this seminaries in Jerusalem. Immediately after the letter was published and sparked outrage among the factors of Torah Judaism, he quickly apologized and claimed that what he said was given interpretation.

Earlier today, Shas Council member Asher Mishali, who initiated the curbing of the budget for construction of the building, sent a letter to the chairman of the Finance Committee, David Hadari and allocations committee chairman, Yosef Luk, in which he sought to pass the budget of 10 million to another Haredi institution. In the same letter he also asked to deny any future assignment to the seminary in question since its alleged managers refuse to accept four Sephardi girls even though they meet the acceptance criteria.

In response to Gura's letter, Asher Mishali said tonight to Behadrey Haredim: "Not one penny. One girl is like a hundred girls. Whether it's the personal ego of one manager or another who is willing to sacrifice an entire seminary only ego games, he should bear the consequences.

"I am subject to rabbinical discipline and if it is possible to use these tools after six months of persuasion by many others in the system against the principal of the seminary, but to no avail. It simply left no choice. Therefore I am determined to continue any tool that the authority gives the order to restore the lost dignity of these girls. "

Gura's remarks who allegedly back the haredi discrimination in Jerusalem, join the words of Yitzchak Pindrus, deputy mayor who said: "I was shocked to hear that at the meeting it was outrageously decided to fail an application brought to the committee through the Department of Orthodox education." The decision to fail the vote on the budget he defined as "outrageous and irresponsible."

It should be noted that the final decision whether to pass the budget or not - has not been received.
