First time: Daf Hayomi event in Satmar halls

History in Satmar: In the Hasidic stronghold, a siyum masseches Shabbos was held last Saturday night in the framework of the Daf Hayomi study.

In Satmar, as known, they avoid learning Daf Hayomi according to the format outlined by Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin zt"l, due to the fact that Rabbi Meir was one of the members of the large gathering of Agudath Yisrael.

But last Motzaei Shabbos, in the Imperial luxury halls in Williamsburg belonging to Satmar, a siyum of masseches Shabbos was held, attended by a large audience and rabbis of the city. The event was organized nu the committee for disseminating Daf Hayomi by Agudath Yisrael, with communities in Williamsburg.

The event was attended by Harav Hagaon Yitzchak Rabinowitz, Magid Shiur at Yeshivat Or Israel and Dom"tz Boyan in Williamsburg, who delivered opening remarks.

The siyum itself was held by Harav Hagaon Efraim Fishel Hershkowitz, Dayan of Tzanz-Klausenberger community. The speaker of honor was Harav Hagaon R' Moshe Tuvia Lief Rav of Kehal Agudath Yisrael Beis Binyamin, Flatbush. The start of masseches Eiruvin was conducted by Harav Hagaon R' Yaakov Zeide Dom"tz Kehillas Tzemach Tzadik, Vizhnitz in Williamsburg. Greetings were brought by Chairman of board of dissemination for Day Hayomi, Rabbi Gedaliah Weinberger. Master of ceremonies of the event was Harav Hagaon R' Avraham David Nosenzweig, Magid Shiur in Yeshivas Tzanz-Klausenberg and in Daf Hayomi.

Satmar do not see a contradiction between its stated ideals, against joining the study of Daf Hayomi, and accommodating the Agudah event in the hall. "We do not do check the tzitzis of customers, when it comes to a distinctly Torah event," say directors of the institutions in Williamsburg.
