Haredim, residents of Judea and Samaria, Ethiopian and Arab citizens of Israel, are shown in a negative light in news reports of the channels 2 and 10, and entertainment programs, hospitality and commercial television channels reality show, according to a survey conducted by the 2nd Authority for Television and Radio.

The survey was conducted last September by the Authority and included 737 respondents, a representative sample of citizens.

Half of the respondents believed that the Haredim are shown in a negative light on news broadcasts, 43% felt that the settlers have such coverage, 40% mentioned the Ethiopians and one third of the respondents mentioned the Israeli Arabs.

"In recent years there has been significant improvement in the representation of different groups and residents of the periphery in commercial channels," explains Second Authority Chairman Dr. Ilan Avissar, "However this survey shows that viewers have high sensitivities and expectations of fair and proper coverage representation of the various programs.

"News data brings a useful fact indicating that the public felt that the news do not do justice to certain society groups. Authority will examine the issue with new companies, while we work to improve the situation by representatives of the boards of directors of news."
