Will residents of Modi'in Illit can be able to enjoy Pesach at the Park Inba located near Modi'in? B'Chadrei Charedim learned last week that the municipality decided that the park will open during Pesach also for visitors who are not residents of the city.
Recall last Sukkot, Mayor Chaim Bibas decided to close the park to visitors who are not residents of the city. At the entrance to the park was established a guard post, who sorted visited according to their personal identity cards.
Many expressed surprise at the decision, and explained it as exclusion of haredim, given the fact that the Bibas and Modi'in Illit Mayor Yaakov Guterman, then developed a high-profile dispute against Guterman's statement that he will not allow the entry of seculars to the archaeological site located in the city.
At the same time Bibas introduced legal opinion of Professor Ariel Bendor, from which could be concluded that indeed the municipality has the authority to allow entry of only Modiin residents to the park.
Now, it turns out, media and public pressure worked, and the mayor retracted his decision.
Sources close to the mayor made it clear that it reserves the right to close the park to entrance of foreign residents at other times, in view of the fact that the previous decision received legal backing.
