Gilad Shalit recruited for the release of the Jewish spy Jonathan Pollard.
The status which was posted to the official Facebook of Shalit supporters, and signed by the soldier who himself returned from captivity, he urges his supporters to sign a petition calling on U.S. President Barack Obama, to ration Pollard's sentence.
"I signed the petition. Please sign too. Freedom is a gift and a privilege. I thank everyone who did for me, now please join the rescue for Pollard. Gilad Shalit," it was written on the page, to which was attached a link to the petition.
Over a hundred thousand signatures collected online petition has been opened for it.
Since it became known of Obama's planned visit to Israel, there have been increased calls to seek the release of Jonathan Pollard, whose health is deteriorating. Tens of thousands of Israelis have signed a letter to be forwarded to Obama during his visit. A new campaign initiated by the Committee for Pollard introduced a cell wall that read: "Mr. President, please save me, J. Pollard."
