The Orthodox community in New York is in shock since the hit and run accident that claimed the lives of the couple Nathan (Nussie) and Raizy Glauber z"l, and this morning the life of their son – the premature baby born in the first week of the seventh month of the mother's pregnancy.

B'Chadrei Charedim learned that only two weeks ago Nathan's parents celebrated the birth of the youngest child. "Chilling coincidence," said one of the women. "A few days ago they were all so happy and pleased and yesterday they had to bury their eldest son."

New York Police today released that the premature baby born yesterday at the scene of the accident, died at the Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan. Yitzchak Abraham, Satmar community activist, told the New York Times that the condition of the baby giving birth by cesarean section immediately after the accident, in the hospital, "Bellevue", was rather severe.

"The only thing I can say, unfortunately, is that even the little baby who weighed only one kilo, and could have served as a living memento of his family – was torn from them," said Abraham. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents in the cemetery of Kiryat Yoel in Monroe. Yitzchak added that the community and the family intend to require that the driver be charged with murder in three sections.

The funeral of the couple from Satmar, Nathan and Raizy Glauber z"l age 21 who were married ten months ago, took place yesterday. Thousands of Hassidic community members participated in the funeral procession, which was from the Beis Midrash of Satmar Williamsburg, through Monsey until Kiryat Yoel.

"This is a great tragedy for us," eulogized the Satmar Rebbe at the funeral, with tears in his eyes. "We need to strengthen together and see how we can improve the situation."

Yitzchak Zilberstein, father of Raizy z"l, said to mourners that the tragedy is a tragedy too difficult for him and the whole family. "We must strengthen in faith. Hashem gave Hashem took, we must not ask questions about what Hashem does for us, even if we do not exactly understand why we deserve it."

Brother of Raizy, Nachum Yoel, said the last time they were sitting together with the family, was a few hours before the accident at Melave Malka, along with Raizy's parents. "We were sitting around one table, and a few hours after they are no longer with us, it's unbelievable, I do not see how that could be?" He said crying.

Another brother eulogized her: "She was the crown of the family." He also eulogized her husband: "We can all learn from him how to treat a wife. The manner in which he did it was special."

Mrs. Sarah Gluck, a cousin of the late Nathan Glauber, said: "They were always happy. They were just starting their lives, and built a family together. They were so excited about the approaching birth."

Police hunt for the BMW driver

The accident occurred around midnight (EST New York), when the couple was driven in a cab on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. At the corner of Wilson the taxi driver, who didn’t stop at the stop sign, hit a BMW car. As a result of the hit the taxi was thrown and crashed into a truck parked on the street.

The vehicle owner was investigated by police, but there are sure that she was not in the car on that night.
The taxi driver where the couple were on their way to the hospital in Manhattan said immediately upon his release from the hospital: "I do not remember anything."

He could not remember whether he had a stop sign and he ignored it, or whether the couple were or were not wearing a seatbelt. "They told me it was a hit and run and there is an investigation," said the driver. His wife who is pregnant with their fourth child turned to the media that the driver of the BMW car and said, "Expose your face."

It also announced a reward of 15,000 dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the escaped driver.
