Three mortar shells fell today (Shabbos) afternoon in the southern Golan Heights.
It is estimated that it is a leakage again from the civil war in Syria into Israel. IDF forces searched the area and located the remains of mortar in the open area. There were no casualties.
Head of the Golan, Eli Malka, said on the fall of mortars "on such a beautiful Shabbos with many guests who arrived at the Golan Heights, we have to witness such cases of stray mortars coming to our region."
He said, "It is important to emphasize that we continue our full routine and on the other hand we do not want to make these events our normal routine. Tomorrow we will hold a joint meeting with IDF forces scattered in the area to get an updated picture of events occurring beyond the fence on the Syrian border."
Northern Command liaison officers filed a complaint following the fall of mortars and details about the event to UN forces permanently stationed in the border crossing. Last week, officers conducted contacts with the UN due to multiple shootings and mortar shells which fell in the area.
A military source said the mortars which had landed in Israel were not directed to harm IDF soldiers.
