In efforts to increase the mass of customers, matzos bakeries are trying with introduce innovations and patents, in order to improve the quality of the quality in different ways.
Recently, a new social phenomenon: to dry the hot matzos as soon as removing them from the oven, using a special blower. This operation gives the matzoh brittleness and improves significantly the delicate flavor. But since it is unleavened bread, then all actions must be examined through a microscope, if there is no prohibition of leavening.
Various sources turned to Badatz Eideh Charedi who a number of bakeries are subject to their authority who use these bellows and said that sometimes the matzos do not leave the oven baked enough; only the heat of the blower dries them. Every pupil understands that the temperature of the bellows is significantly less than the warmth of the blazing fire, and therefore, the matzoh may be partially baked by the bellows, causing the problem of leavening.
After thorough discussion conducted by rabbis at the kashrus board at Badatz, it was decided to put a special supervisor at every bakery, besides the permanent mashgiach, standing next to the oven and check all the matzoh after its removal, one by one, before it will be dried by bellows. A matzoh that is overly soft and may be a concern of leavening heaven forbid, the one in charge will order the 'shever' (who brings and takes out of the oven) to return it for a few seconds more to the inside of the oven, before it continues to the bellows.
Another issue that came to the Badatz table-people who are allergic to wheat. There are many, who are sensitive to gluten or wheat flour and in the middle of the year, there are various solutions using other cereals pastries, but on Pesach all manufacturing substitute becomes a big headache.
The proposal suggested on spelt matzoh baking. One of the bakeries offered to take on the challenge and provide thousands of allergic people with kosher matzo, if Badatz approve of course. Badatz members weighed, carried and discussed and finally decided that supervision will not be granted for such matzos. This is because the Minchas Yitzchak zt"l, who was Av Beit Din of the Eideh Charedi had addressed this in his time, and held various religious reasons, that one cannot have control over spelt matzoh. Due to this statement, Badatz decided to avoid the deviating demand to go against the ruling of the Minchas Yitzchak, and removed the proposal from the agenda.
However, it is important to note that the member of Badatz, Rabbi Yehoshua Rosenberger, personally bakes spelt matzoh for his family.
