The city's prosecutor Hoff Gerhard Schmitt informed the court in Cologne, Germany that he rejected claims that his office placed against Rabbi David Goldberg, the rabbi of the town.

Six months ago, Rabbi Goldberg received a message that at least 10 individual claims were filed against him, due to circumcisions conducted, and contrary to the ruling of the court in Cologne, which concluded that circumcision of children is illegal and constitutes a violation of the body.

Complaints against the Rabbi caused a storm in the media and among Jewish organizations since it was the first time ever that a Rabbi was sued for the fulfillment of the covenant. Previous lawsuit filed on the subject was referred to a doctor, who performed circumcision on a Muslim child in Cologne. The doctor wasn’t indicted, for technical reasons.

As mentioned, last week the court said that the rabbi was cleared of the claims against him after in December vote of 434 MPs was passed compared with 100 who opposed, stating one can circumcise babies up to six months.

Jewish community officials said that before the passing of the law, "there were families who did not make circumcisions."

Rabbi Goldberg himself said tonight to B'Chadrei Charedim: "I heard about the decision from local journalists, I was very happy. I was afraid at first that it may develop in other directions because there were 10 criminal charges against me. I went and I will continue to carry out circumcisions without fear."
