Appointment of Chuck Heigl Minister of Defense was approved

Finally: the appointment of Chuck Heigl as defense minister of the United States approved by the Senate tonight by a majority of 58 senators who voted in favor, compared to 41 who opposed the appointment.

Heigl's path was fraught with delays, after Republicans outsmarted the former senator with difficulties and accused him biased against Israel and his views.

Last week a committee of the U.S. Senate suddenly rejected the vote on the appointment, the committee members asked for more information about the speeches for which he received payment and business.

This was not the first time that the vote on the case was stalled: Three weeks ago, Senate Republicans thwarted the efforts of Democrats to approve the appointment process faster. The appointment was postponed earlier this month after Republicans asked for information about his personal finances.

After Obama's announcement that he presents Heigl as candidate for Secretary of Defense, the American Jewish lobby has expressed strong opposition to the appointment due to anti-Israeli statements on Heigl's part in the past. Heigl is also historically opposed to the sanctions policy, which he previously called again and again to manage diplomacy with countries like Iran and North Korea.
