Baruch Dayan Haemes: In Jerusalem the Mekubal Hrh"z Reb Avraham Brandwein from Stratin, passed away today (Wednesday) at the age of 67.
Lately he became unwell, and his condition deteriorated during the past few days. He was hospitalized yesterday at Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem, and today he returned his soul to His creator.
He was born to his father Rabbi Yehuda Zvi Brandwein of Stratin zt"l, he served as Rabbi of the Histadrut, following the death of his father he led the Beis Medrash and community in the Old City in Jerusalem, near the Churva synagogue, for many years.
In his Beis Medrash there were shiurim from before sunrise until midnight – they learned the Zohar. The Rebbe was known as a mekubal, and even wrote a few books including 'Mahut Hadas Umatrata'.
He used to hold tishim on the yartzeit of his forefathers, and many came and joined in. He would bring many Jews closer to their Father in heaven, and baalei teshiva. His students are scattered throughout Israel, and he was always in contact with them by telephone.
Despite his greatness, he was humble and modest; he sat and learned Torah all day, starting from sunrise.
The last time he visited the States he gave a shiur at Wall Street.
Three and a half years ago his wife the Rebbetzin Tzipporah Brandwein a"h passed away at the age of 62, after suffering illness for a few years.
He was the mechutan of the Rebbe of Kupishnitz, Ashlag and Kamerna Ramat Shlomo.
He left a beautiful generation behind him: sons, son in laws and grandchildren who continue in his footsteps.
The funeral will leave this evening (Wednesday) at 19:00 from the Shamgar funeral home in Jerusalem towards Mount of Olives-where he will be laid to rest next to his wife a"h.
