Police are investigating suspicions that an incumbent MK paid money for his party's primary election votes, Yedioth Ahronoth reports this morning (Monday). According to the report, the police hold recordings obtained by a private investigator, documenting how the MK pays 'vote contractors' for voters.
The suspect MK from the Jewish Home party, is expected to be questioned by the police in the coming days. He vehemently denies the allegations against him.
"I'll tell you things you would not believe," says the votes contractor to the investigator. "There's a packet of Marlboro. They say they brought you cigarettes from the duty-free. So there are two packets with 50 thousand dollars in bills. Only cash. You come to his office and he immediately tells you: "I brought you cigarettes from the duty-free." This is not in the Knesset, because there you can not bring in such sums, there you pass inspection. "
"When I see functionaries, I say - it's time to milk the politicians. They need to support them and the only way is to give money. 100-200 thousand shekels are amounts that can help us."
In recent weeks, the police conducted an undercover investigation, as part of the investigation several vote contractors were arrested, whose testimony increased the suspicion against the politicians. One of the vote contractors was recorded telling how he plans to blackmail the politician, if he ignored him after elected.
"The fact they give money is forbidden," he explains. "It's illegal to pay. So if tomorrow he'll say, 'Go away, who knows you?' no problem. Everything is listed, everything is orderly, when you brought, how much you bring, don't play games, go with the truth."
