Hag"r Aharon Leib: Don't drink too much wine on Purim
אלי קובין

At the end of his weekly Shiur in 'Nefesh Hachayim', R' Aharon Leib Steinman referred to actuality too, matters of Purim.

R' Aharon Leib was asked by participants in the shiur, which things should one strengthen mainly on Purim?

One of his provisions was surprising. One should drink less wine on Purim:

"One should strengthen matters of bein adam lachaveiro and not stop learning Torah. Once there were those who thought that one 'must not' learn Torah on Purim since it is worthy to get drunk. But now people understand it, Baruch Hashem. That one should not only drink wine. Because, if one drinks a lot, one fails in all sorts of bad things. Therefore one should drink only a little wine. "

Hgr"g Edelstein also addressed the issue of bein adam lachaveiro in his weekly shiur, which becomes all the more intense on Purim: "There are some", proved Hgr"g, "who are buys on Purim with simcha which is not a mitzvah, and from Rosh Chodesh Adar are preparing for it. There are those who deal with things of "heter" where there is no "issur", but have Bitul Torah.

"But worse than that is if you deal with things that may harm others, it is something very serious."

Strange "tza'ar gidul banim"
Hgr"g also criticized those using a so-called "Masseches Purim:" There is a "Purim Masseches" which uses words of leitzanus with Aramaic words and names of tanoim and amoraim like the Shas. Certainly this is not favorable in the eyes of Chachomim , because to give the name of "masseches" to words of leitzanus is disregard for words of Torah."

Further on, Hgr"g wished to illustrate the severity of the issue through stories that occurred in the past, within the yeshiva:
"Many years ago, one of the yeshiva students who made joy of Purim and ridiculed an important person, and there was no loshon hora or revenge in it, he was just imitating his voice in a humoristic way and introduced himself as that person, and he died at a young age from a very rare disease."

"And another story which happened at the yeshiva, that they held a show for Simchas Purim, and ridiculed one person, and until that Purim he was studying diligently and with zest, and since then he lost the taste for learning, and is unable to learn in depth as he used to learn - before that Purim."

The following story, is also terrible and has a sharp message, how much one has to be careful not to use the platform of the press to publish mocking articles under the cover of Purim:

"One who was angry at a person who wanted to harm someone from his family in shidduchim. Indeed, that person wasn't successful and the shidduch was carried out, but in his heart he was still angry and strict at him and was looking for a way to get back at him. During Purim there are those who write mocking articles, and he wrote an article and made merrymaking at the expense of the same person, and his end was that he suffered for the rest of his life from very strange tza'ar gidul banim."
